Dental Veneers

Dentist using a precise shade matching tool to select the ideal dental veneer for a smiling patient's teeth.Dental veneers are a popular cosmetic solution for enhancing the appearance of teeth, offering a quick and long-lasting way to achieve a beautiful, uniform smile. Made of thin, custom-designed shells typically crafted from porcelain or composite resin, veneers are bonded to the front of teeth to cover imperfections such as stains, chips, gaps, or irregular shapes.

Veneers offer numerous benefits, including their natural appearance, stain resistant capabilities, and durability. The procedure to install them is also minimally invasive. All things considered, veneers are ideal for those looking to make dramatic improvements to their smile in just a few visits.

What are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are wafer-thin shells designed to cover the front surface of the teeth, improving aesthetics by creating a bright, uniform appearance. Porcelain veneers are particularly popular because they closely mimic the light-reflecting properties of natural teeth and are resistant to staining. Composite resin veneers also provide a natural appearance and we can apply them more quickly than porcelain veneers.

Veneers are often used to address a range of cosmetic concerns, including:
•  Discoloration: Veneers can cover severe stains or discolorations that don't respond to whitening treatments, providing a bright, even color across the teeth.
•  Chipped or Worn Teeth: They can restore the appearance of chipped, cracked, or worn teeth, giving them a full and symmetrical look.
•  Gaps Between Teeth: Veneers are used to close minor gaps between teeth, eliminating the need for orthodontic treatment in some cases.
•  Irregularly Shaped or Misaligned Teeth: Veneers can create a more uniform appearance for teeth that are slightly misaligned or irregularly shaped, giving the impression of a straighter smile.

The Veneer Procedure

Getting dental veneers typically involves three steps: consultation, preparation, and placement.
•  Consultation: The first step is a consultation with Dr. Sally Moser to discuss aesthetic goals and determine if veneers are the right option. We will examine the teeth, take X-rays, and create a model of the mouth to plan the treatment.
•  Preparation: For porcelain veneers, a small amount of enamel (usually less than a millimeter) is removed from the front surface of each tooth. This allows the veneer to adhere seamlessly to the tooth. We will then take impressions, which are sent to a dental lab to create the custom veneers. Temporary veneers are placed while we craft the permanent ones.
•  Placement: During the final visit, we will check the fit, shape, and color of the veneers to ensure a natural look. The teeth are cleaned, and a special adhesive is applied to bond the veneers securely to the teeth. Once bonded, the veneers are polished, giving the teeth a bright, flawless appearance.

Caring for Veneers

Veneers require similar care to natural teeth, including regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups. Avoiding habits like nail-biting or chewing on hard objects can help prevent damage to the veneers. Although porcelain is resistant to staining, limiting dark-colored foods and drinks like coffee, tea, and wine can help keep the veneers looking their best.
