Dental Bonding

Whether addressing chips, cracks, gaps, or discoloration, bonding provides a quick, effective, and affordable way to improve a smile. Unlike more extensive treatments like crowns or veneers, dental bonding is minimally invasive and often takes only a single appointment to complete, making it a convenient choice for those looking to boost their confidence.

What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding involves applying a composite resin to the surface of a tooth and shaping it to correct minor imperfections. The resin is carefully matched to the natural color of the teeth, creating a natural look. Once applied, the resin is hardened with a special curing light and then polished to blend with the surrounding teeth.

Dental bonding is versatile and can address various cosmetic concerns, including:
•  Repairing chipped or cracked teeth
•  Closing gaps between teeth
•  Improving tooth shape
•  Concealing discoloration

The Dental Bonding Procedure

The bonding process is typically simple, quick, and painless, requiring little to no preparation or anesthesia unless we're using the bonding to fill a cavity. Here's what to expect during a dental bonding procedure:
•  Preparation: Dr. Sally Moser will choose a resin color that closely matches the shade of the natural teeth to ensure a seamless result. In most cases, there's no need for drilling or anesthesia unless we're using the bonding to treat a decayed tooth.
•  Application: The tooth's surface is lightly roughened to help the resin adhere, and a conditioning liquid is applied. We will then apply the resin, carefully shaping it to match the contours of the natural tooth.
•  Curing and Polishing: A special curing light is used to harden the resin, bonding it securely to the tooth. Once hardened, we'll polish the bonded tooth, blending it with the other teeth and ensuring a smooth, natural finish.

The entire process usually takes about 30 to 60 minutes per tooth, making it a convenient option for patients looking for quick improvements.

Benefits of Dental Bonding

Dental bonding offers several advantages:
•  Affordability: Bonding is generally less expensive than other cosmetic treatments like veneers or crowns, making it accessible to many patients.
•  Quick and Convenient: We can typically complete bonding in one visit, and the procedure is non-invasive, with no need for anesthesia in most cases.
•  Natural Appearance: The resin material used in bonding closely resembles natural tooth enamel, providing a subtle, natural-looking enhancement.
•  Versatility: Bonding can address a wide range of minor cosmetic concerns, making it a versatile option for smile improvement.

Caring for Bonded Teeth

With proper care, dental bonding can last several years. Patients should avoid habits that may damage the bonded teeth, such as biting nails or chewing on hard objects. Additionally, bonded resin is prone to staining, so limiting consumption of dark-colored foods and drinks like coffee, tea, and red wine can help maintain a bright smile.

Good oral hygiene practices, including regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups, are essential to prolong the lifespan of dental bonding and keep the surrounding teeth healthy. To learn more about dental bonding, call at (737) 355-6213.
